From Humble Beginnings…
The school’s first incarnation was founded in1924 as a single classroom school in a private residence, belonging to Mr Gopal to serve the educational needs of the greater Rustenburg Indian community.
In 1932 the School moved to the first floor of the Ziman Building in Plein Street Rustenburg. Here the school had 5 classrooms and three teachers and its first official principal in Mr Harry Earnest.
The school was once again necessitated to move to larger premises in 1935. A new building was built by the Muslim congregation of Rustenburg. Growing in size, the school moved to a new building in Loop Street in 1944. This building was officially opened in March 1944 by Mr HHG Kraft.
In 1954 Secondary Classes (High School) was introduced. The first group of 8 learners Matriculated in 1963.
On the 2nd of October 1972 the School occupied newly developed premises, 42 Hollis Street, Zinniaville, Rustenburg.
On 25 August 1973 the current school building was officially opened as “Rustenburg Indian School” with a total learner enrollment of 242.
In 1981 the School is renamed and confirmed as Zinniaville Secondary School.
A hostel was built in 1988 and eight additional classrooms were completed in 1993 to meet the needs of the ever-growing learner enrollment.
From here, the school has grown from strength to strength overcoming many challenges along the way to deliver consistently good academic results and producing nationally recognised professionals in their fields including surgeons, scientists and lawyers.
In 2003 the school was presented with a certificate for the most Racially Integrated School in South Africa.
Now with more than 1000 racially diverse learners enrolled in the school from Grade R to Grade 12, the school has grown far beyond what was ever envisioned during its founding to become a true..
